How To Calculate Your Vehicle's Miles Per Gallon!

So how do I know what my car's MPG (miles per gallon) is? Well, here are a few steps you can take to find out.

So here's how to calculate your own car's MPG:

  1. Fill up your fuel tank and set your tripometer to zero.
  2. Drive the car a while until you have used at least 1/2 the tank or more.
  3. Fill the tank again and note how many number of gallons it took to fill it.
  4. Divide the miles traveled by the number of gallons used.
  5. This will tell you your cars miles per gallon (MPG).
  6. For example let's say you went 200 miles between fill-ups, and it took 10.00 gallons to fill the tank. Divide 200 (miles traveled) by 10 (number of gallons) which equals 20.00. This example gets 20.0 miles per gallon.
  7. Check your miles-per-gallon as compared to what your car is rated at www.fueleconomy.gov
