How To Calculate Your Vehicle's Miles Per Gallon!
So how do I know what my car's MPG (miles per gallon) is? Well, here are a few steps you can take to find out.
So here's how to calculate your own car's MPG:
- Fill up your fuel tank and set your tripometer to zero.
- Drive the car a while until you have used at least 1/2 the tank or more.
- Fill the tank again and note how many number of gallons it took to fill it.
- Divide the miles traveled by the number of gallons used.
- This will tell you your cars miles per gallon (MPG).
- For example let's say you went 200 miles between fill-ups, and it took 10.00 gallons to fill the tank. Divide 200 (miles traveled) by 10 (number of gallons) which equals 20.00. This example gets 20.0 miles per gallon.
- Check your miles-per-gallon as compared to what your car is rated at www.fueleconomy.gov
